JANE FURSE – Limpopo police have arrested 10 men and a woman in connection with the death of a police officer who was allegedly killed in Madibong Village.

This comes after a 57-year-old W/O Boshego Joel Seloga was allegedly killed by community members while trying to apprehend a wanted suspect in the village on Saturday.

Police spokesman, Col Ronel Otto, said the officer was part of an operation from North West, tracing a suspect wanted for crimes committed in Brits. Seloga worked at the Hlogotlou station in Sekhukhune.

“The wanted suspect was traced to Madibong Village where he was attending the funeral of a villager who was shot and killed the previous week,” she said.

Otto added that while the warrant officer tried to apprehend the suspect, he screamed for help.

“Members of the community rushed to his assistance and mistook the police members for criminals – they were all wearing casual clothes. They suspected that the members might have been involved in the murder of the community member who was being buried.”

Otto revealed that the police members retreated and ran for cover, however, Seloga was cornered and shot with his pistol.

“His official service pistol was forcefully taken from him and he was shot in the head and died on the scene.” According to Otto the suspects were expected to appear in court soon.

The firearm was retrieved where it had been buried in the ground.
