Piles of trash an eyesore for Numbi Park residents

Rubbish piling up on the sidewalks at Eland Street in Numbi Park over the last few months have led to several complaints from residents.

The past month, characterised by high temperatures, has seen foodscraps left in the searing heat to rot, attracting flies and becoming a breeding ground for diseases. Tins and plastic bags were scattered across the road and several heaps of rubbish formed on the sidewalk.

Residents are urged to double check which day their refuse is collected (Numbi Park’s is on a Wednesday and Hazyview Vakansiedorp is on a Thursday). Refuse bags should be place on the driveway or preferably on a stand where dogs can’t reach and tear open the bags.

Do not place refuse bags outside after the start of the collection day, as the municipal workers may have already passed your house and won’t pick it up until the next collection day. Leave the bags in a shady patch in your yard for the week or take them to the municipal dumping site.

If you’d like to start recycling, research ways to recycle household waste and put the rubbish in seperate bags. Find out where the nearest recycling drop-off is or whether a recycling company can’t pick up some of your waste.
