Diligent work leads to recovery of vehicles

Two suspected stolen vehicles were recovered at the Lebombo Border Post on April 24

KOMATIPOORT – Police in the Onderberg are serious about combating vehicle theft and ensuring that the route through the Lebombo Border Post does not provide an easy escape.

The latest in their successes are the recovery of two luxury vehicles at the border on April 24.

A silver CLS 250 Mercedes-Benz coupé with registration number DDL 221 L with two male occupants was stopped.

“Upon verification, it was found that the vehicle was fitted with a false licence disc and registration number. The vehicle’s correct registration is 000 D 00 GP. The two men, a 26-year-old South African and a 24-year-old Malawian national, have been arrested for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and for being in possession of a motor vehicle fitted with false registration numbers and a forged licence disc,” Komatipoort police spokesman, Const Natacia Mbuyane explained.

Moments after this arrest, police officers at the same location made a similar one.

“A charcoal C180 Mercedes-Benz with registration number BX 74 SB GP entered the border post on its way to Mozambique. Upon verification it was discovered that the number plate were false, the vehicle was reported stolen in Pretoria West. A 44-year-old South African man and a 32-year-old Malawian were arrested and will face charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” Mbuyane added.
