Tonga community should step up safety in homes

Several robberies over the past few weeks have highlighted the fact that Tonga residents need to increase security in their homes.

TONGA – Police are urging residents to increase their home safety, after a domestic worker was attacked on Tuesday morning.

The 34-year-old woman was working when she heard a knock on the door and opened it to find a stranger on the doorstep. The man alleged that he was sent by the home owner to fix something. The next moment, two other men joined the stranger, threatened the woman with a firearm and forced their way inside.

The suspects searched the house and stole a cellphone and cash before fleeing.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Tonga Police Station.

Police recommend that community members keep all doors locked when they are in their home. Home owners should notify domestic workers if someone will be visiting the house to fix something, while they’re at work. Unless it was arranged, domestic workers should not let anyone into the property or house.
