BURGERSFORT – Less than a month after the Operation Mabone contractor, Mr Lufuno Mphaphuli from Mphaphuli Consulting, returned to the work site, he has been dealt a major blow. His equipment was stolen in Extension 3, Praktiseer.
According to Mphaphuli, an Airdac cable belonging to his subcontractors, Madz Construction & Electrical Company, was stolen on January 5.
“These are some of the challenges we encounter in our quest to ensure that local villages have electricity. Some of our equipment, such as meter boxes, were also vandalised,” he said. According to the contractor, the stolen cable costs more than R200 000.
Tubatse SAPS spokesman, Sgt Sello Movundlela, confirmed to Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the police were busy with investigations for a cable theft case.
Operation Mabone is back on track, with the subcontractors at work on sites such as Mareseleng, Extension 3, and Kampeng. The initiative was launched in 2013, earmarked to electrify about 13 000 villages in Tubatse.
