Uplands matrics do it again

Uplands College once again celebrated excellent matric results.

All 92 candidates passed, with 97 per cent with degree access.

The performances of the top-ten achievers in the recent matric IEB examinations were outstanding.

Of the candidates, 20 per cent achieved at least three distinctions, ten averaged six distinctions each and seven were placed in the top one per cent of all IEB candidates for a given subject.

A further 76 per cent of all subject marks exceeded 60 per cent.

The top ten achievers were:

• Uplands’ dux scholar, Paul Hume, with seven distinctions, is heading to the University of Pretoria to study civil engineering.

• Dylan Smart (seven distinctions) will study mechanical engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.

• Henu Badenhorst (six distinctions) has set his sights on studying theatre and performance art in America.

• Siana Garido-Mirapeix Munn (six distinctions) is first heading on a travel adventure before undertaking her degree in Scotland.

• Diyana Omar (six distinctions) is hoping to study medicine at the University of Cape Town or Witwatersrand.

• Delsya Urmson (six distinctions) will study medicine at UCT.

• Giovana Zeppe (six distinctions) is set to study business management at the University of Cape Town.

• Mariska Bam (five distinctions) is set to begin her BSc in human life sciences at the University of Stellenbosch.

• Andrea Hoppé (five distinctions) is taking a gap year in New Zealand, where she will be working as a school tutor.

• Ian Thomson (five distinctions) will undertake an officer’s course with the Finnish army, before heading to study in Scotland in 2020.
