Home4Paws struggles to find foster families

Cathy Schutte, the animal rescuer and shelter owner of Home4Paws, said her kennels are currently filled with dumped and surrendered pets. It has been a cruel festive season for abandoned animals, and she is looking for families to foster dogs and cats.

Pet fostering provides temporary care to shelter animals that need to live in a home environment prior to adoption.

“I have about 60 dogs in the shelter. It is already overcrowded and it will help if animals are fostered,” said Schutte.

Apart from being filled to the brim, she made it clear that everything was not always negative, and that Good Samaritans make her life easier.

Schutte wanted to thank all the charity organisations that donated food to the shelter in December. She said there had not been a single day since the start of lockdown in 2020 that she was not called out to collect a dumped or stray dog.

Another way to support Schutte is to visit the Home4Paws charity shop. Donated furniture, clothes, books and other items are sold to raise funds. To help Home4Paws, phone Schutte on 082 462 5754.
