SPCA White River sends urgent message to all pit bull owners
After recent incidents involving pit bulls, the SPCA White River felt it necessary to appeal to all residents with this message.
The SPCA White River has a message for owners of pit bulls in the town and its surrounding areas.
Following recent incidents in other parts of the country, the society said it knew it needed to get this message out.
It stated the following on its Facebook page:
“If you or your family are afraid of your dog, for any reason, regardless of breed, please surrender them to the SPCA. There is no cost (any donations are welcome), and no judgement that comes with surrendering a pet to us. We will never turn an animal away. If you need advice or assistance with an animal you are afraid of, please feel free to contact the White River SPCA on 013 750 0240.

“If you own a pit bull, please keep your dog safe. For the safety of your dog, they should be kept indoors, or in a confined, sheltered area out of view of the road at night. This is to prevent theft, poisoning or other harm coming to them.
“If you own a pit bull purely for the purpose of guarding your property, rather surrender them to your closest SPCA.
“If you have a pit bull tied up as a ‘guard dog’, you are setting yourself up for tragedy and putting your dog in a very unsafe situation. Please surrender your dog. If you need security for your yard, contact a security company.”
