Nelspruit Eisteddfod’s crème de la crème takes centre stage
The best acts of this year's eisteddfod performed for the last time at the Mbombela Civic Theatre during the gala evening.
After six weeks filled with the Lowveld’s singing, dance, instrumental and drama talent, the much-anticipated Nelspruit Eisteddfod gala evening was held at Mbombela Civic Theatre on Friday September 15.
This was the first time in four years, since Covid-19 hindered it from happening, that the gala evening could occur once again.
The theme of this year’s eisteddfod was ‘In My World’ and the youngsters definitely did not disappoint.
Twenty-eight different acts put everything out onto stage, showing exactly why they were chosen to perform and are deemed to be the cream of the crop.

Eugené Wait, the chairperson of the art section and organiser of the gala evening, said the organisers had had their work cut out for them when selecting acts from the array of talent the Lowveld has on offer.
“It was extremely difficult to determine who could perform [at the gala evening],” Wait said.
The evening’s programme flowed on its own, with the performances needing little to no introduction. Beautiful melodies filled the theatre as the stars of this year’s instrumental section carefully guided their fingers over the piano’s keys. Angelic harp music by the talented Alayna Kuzel was also included in this section, with the famous marimba group of Uplands College entertaining with their soulful and vibey rhythms.
The vocalists ranged from a choir ensemble, a hearty duet and a powerful solo. In the dance section, a mixture of modern, ballet, tap and musical theatre was brought to the stage, while young and old entertained the audience with their dramatised monologues and poetry.
In the theatre’s foyer, the brilliant artworks and photography entries were on display.
