Nelspruit Primary athletes dominate relay races

The U13 boys broke the 4x100m relay record by 19/100ths of a second.

Nelspruit Primary School’s athletes competed with pride at the 2024 Goldwagen Interprimary Athletics Meeting at Hoërskool Nelspruit on Saturday.

The Primary team left the best for last, winning four of the 12 relay races.

It was the final event of the day, the boys U13 4x100m relay, in which Nelspruit Primary executed the almost perfect race.

Primary and host school Laerskool Nelspruit matched each other at the changeovers, with hundredths of a second separating the baton carriers. But it was the Nelspruit

Primary boys who edged out their traditional rivals by 5/100ths of a second to win the gold medal.

The Primary lads froze the stopwatch on 40.85 seconds, a new interprimary record, shattering their own previous record, set in 2016, by 19/100ths of a second.

Primary also won the boys U8 4x80m, the boys U9 4x80m, and the girls U12 4x80m relays.

Clayton Mathebula won the the junior victor ludorum trophy for combined total of 1 263 ASA points in the 60m and 80m U9 sprints.

Nelspruit Primary’s other gold medal winners were:
• Clayton Mathebula: boys U8 80m – 12.23s
• Joel Akum: boys U10 80m – 11.51s; 100m – 14.50s
• Bella Cocks: girls U12 100m – 14.03s; 150m – 21.32s
• Yanelisa Dlamini: boys U12 high jump – 1.34m
• Huria Rasool: girls U10 shot put – 6.63m.
