On 12 September, Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) proudly hosted students and young professionals from the Mpumalanga Mining and Engineering Network (MMEN) for an insightful visit aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world mining operations.

The MMEN serves as a beacon of professional excellence and community development within the province.

The organisation unites mining professionals, surveyors, engineers, and students who share a common goal of advancing technical expertise and promoting sustainable development in the mining sector.

By creating platforms for learning, mentorship, and collaboration, MMEN continues to empower young individuals to contribute meaningfully to the future of the mining and engineering industries.

The visit formed part of DCM’s continued commitment to nurturing future industry leaders by providing young people with practical exposure to the mining environment.

During the tour, the students visited several key operational areas, including the underground section, where they had the opportunity to observe the mining value chain in real time – from drilling and supporting to loading and hauling operations.

The tour allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of mining processes, safety practices, and the daily realities of the industry.

This initiative not only enhanced their practical knowledge, but also gave them the opportunity to engage directly with mining professionals. Through these interactions, students were able to learn from experienced team members and gain valuable insights that will support their academic and professional growth.

Hosting the MMEN students was a moment of pride for DCM. The company believes that such engagements are vital in inspiring the next generation of mining professionals. It remains dedicated to supporting educational initiatives that equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and exposure needed to excel in their careers.

DCM management expressed its best wishes to the visiting students, emphasising that the lessons and experiences gained from the visit will serve as a strong foundation for their future endeavours in the mining and engineering fields.
