Man shot dead at Mbombela Stadium

His female friend was robbed of her handbag but lived to tell the story.

Austin Snethemba Mashabane (24) was robbed of his cellphone and shot dead after the Summer Blaze event, in the early hours of December 1.

The police said Mashabane was with a female friend when they were accosted by two armed men in the parking lot of Mbombela Stadium at about 01:21.

A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, said the Nelspruit police were called to the scene shortly after the attack.
“When members arrived at the scene they found a female who told them that her friend had been shot by two armed men,” said Mdhluli.

He said the men robbed Mashabane of his mobile phone and also forcefully took the woman’s handbag.
“In the process the male victim was shot. When paramedics arrived at the scene they declared him dead,” said Mdhluli.
He identified the victim as Mashabane.
