Man caught with illegal game meat in Mkhuhlu Village

The game meat was found in a freezer in his house, and he did not have a permit for it.

The police arrested a 30-year-old man who was found in possession of game meat in his house in Mkhuhlu Village on July 29.

According to a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Captain Mpho Nonyane, officers received a tip-off about an individual possessing and selling game meat. The Combat and Proactive Unit acted on the information, conducting a search at the suspect’s residence.

During the search, various types of game meat were recovered from a freezer in his home,” Nonyane stated. “Consequently, he was arrested and charged with possession of wildlife meat.”

Nonyane further confirmed that the suspect did not possess the necessary permit to own the venison.

Authorities suspect the animals may have been poached in the Kruger National Park, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact origin of the meat.

The man is expected to appear in the Masoyi Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges.
