The beloved local was allegedly kidnapped and robbed in 2016. Her body was found seven months ago.

Seven months have passed since White River’s Ms Annatjie Myburgh had died.

When she did not show up for work on June 15 last year, a community search was launched.

Her body was found in the vicinity of the Kruger National Park’s Numbi gate four days later.

It is believed that two men had cornered her while she was driving her Pajero and that they robbed her of her vehicle. It was reported that she was forced into the same vehicle and kidnapped.

Two men were arrested following her death – Messrs Paul Mathebula and Selby Mabila.

Lowvelder reported on their most recent court appearance:

WHITE RIVER – Mr Paul Mathebula (27) and Mr Selby Mabila (26), the two men accused of killing Ms Annatjie Myburgh, briefly appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Their trial has not yet commenced, as results pertaining to a second post-mortem conducted on the body are still outstanding.

Her kidnapping and death shocked the White River community last June. Initially, a missing person’s case was opened on June 15 after Myburgh was last seen at her home outside of town.

Hundreds of community members assisted in searching for her. The body was found four days later. Mathebula and Mabila were arrested on the 18th and 19th. They appeared in court on June 20 and 21. Charges of kidnapping, robbery and a provisional murder charge were laid against them. Prospective evidence in the case includes the post-mortem report compiled on the victim.

However, a second post-mortem was conducted and, pending its outcome, the murder charge may become final. Family spokesman Mr Bruce Macaulay previously told Lowvelder that the family wanted the two to be charged with murder as well.

Mathebula and Mabila’s case was postponed to Monday. It will resume on February 20.
