R38 collision leaves 13 injured, 1 dead

One person died and seven were injured in an accident between a Toyota bakkie and a Mitsubishi Pajero last Sunday. According to Renata Erasmus, spokesman of Lifemed Ambulance Service, the incident happened at 15:55.

Both Lifemed and ER24 were on the scene. Greg Wilcox, branch manager of ER24, told Lowvelder that the accident occurred about 35 kilometres from the R40 T-junction.

According to Wilcox, it seemed as if the Toyota driver had lost control on a corner. It hit the Pajero head-on.

Wilcox could confirm that the person who died was a male, but could not verify whether he was the driver or a passenger in the Toyota.

At the time of going to press, Barberton Times was unable to confirm which victims had been travelling in which vehicle.

The SAPS were also on the scene. Barberton Times could not confirm whether a case had been opened.
