Police on the trail of duo who raped hitchhiker

Police officers in Tonga are searching for two men who picked up a woman hitchhiking home on Tuesday evening and then raped her.

TONGA – A 19-year-old woman was kidnapped and raped after accepting a lift home from two men on Tuesday around 19:00.

According to Capt Magonseni Nkosi of Tonga SAPS, the woman was heading home from work with a male colleague and hitched a ride with two people in a white sedan.

The vehicle’s occupants started harassing them and turned off onto a gravel road in bush in the Mzinti area. They made the man get out and drove off. After a short distance they stopped, overpowered the woman and raped her.

They left her in the bushes and drove away.

The victim managed to hide her cellphone from the suspects and called the police for help.

A case of kidnapping and rape have been opened at Tonga SAPS and investigations are underway.
