KNP introduces safari vehicles with lifts for wheelchairs

The Kruger National Park introduced new vehicles equipped with lifts for wheelchairs yesterday, which will enable people with mobility challenges to enjoy game-drives and other activities in the Park.

SKUKUZA – Disabled people will be able to visit more of the Kruger National Park’s facilities and even enjoy game drives thanks to brand new activity vehicles.

The 14-seater vehicles are equipped with lifts for wheelchairs, which can accommodate up to 250 kilogram and will be used to transport tourists with mobility challenges on game viewing activities.

Lucy Nhlapo, the General Manager: Marula Region, officially unveiled the vehicles in Skukuza on Tuesday and said that it is part of the Park’s mission to ensure that people with mobility issues can also enjoy a wildlife experience.

Nhlapo mentioned that people with disabilities are still being discriminated against in certain areas of society.
Her hope is that these new vehicles will also help to increase awareness and understanding of disabilities and improve access to the park for tourists with disabilities, especially wheelchair users.
