Hijack victim speak of horrific incident

One of the victims of a burglary that took place at a Sasol filling station two weeks ago, said the incident has taken away his right to feel safe.

Two vehicles were hijacked and the filling station’s tuck shop was burgled. Abraham Mabilane spoke about what it’s like being on the other end of a gun.

Mabilane and his wife went to the filling station to fill up their Volvo and to have a routine check on the vehicle that Sunday evening. He had just bought a brand-new Venter trailer which was attached to the car. Mabilane had R800 in his wallet for the petrol.

He was busy checking the tyre pressure when he felt a sudden knock on his temple. Before he could turn his head he felt another knock on his back. He heard yelling and screaming. Male voices demanded him to lay flat on the ground.

With one man standing on his back, gun pinned against his head he could only watch in horror as they flung his wife from the vehicle.

The searched his pockets and found his wallet and keys. The last thing he remembers was the men getting into his car and speeding off.

“Everything happened so fast. I couldn’t see faces, I can’t even tell you if they had masks on or not. They had big guns, not normal handguns, which they waved around and pressed against me,” said Mabilane.

The filling station’s shop was also burgled that evening.
The SAPS found his vehicle deserted in the trust three days later but his trailer was nowhere to be found.
