Malalane water shortages due to burst pipe, low river level

Residents in several parts of Malalane had no water over the last day and a half and the municipality reported this morning that they are urgently working on restoring it.

MALALANE – Many residents had to go without water on Sunday evening and the whole of yesterday, but the Nkomazi Local Municipality stated that the water is expected to be restored by this afternoon.

The water shortages were due to the low levels of the Crocodile River at the Malalane extraction point at Fish Eagle Bend, making it difficult to pump water to the reservoir.

An excavator was deployed this morning in an effort to alleviate the problem and work is expected to take up to four hours.

A burst pipe also contributed to the water shortage.

Residents are urged to use water, once it returns, sparingly, as it may take some time to fill the reservoir.
