Bikers in Mbombela raise funds to purchase toys for orphans

A pre-Toy Run fundraiser for disadvantaged children was held to prepare for the main event that will be held on December 2.

What better excuse for leather-clad bikers to go on a ride than having an opportunity to provide toys for children?

A pre-Toy Run fundraiser for disadvantaged children was held at The Pub on Friday November 17 to prepare for the big event planned  that was planned for November 25.

According to the organiser, Bernadette Woodford, well-known local bands entertained the crowds. The Acoustics, Voodoo Kudu, Soul Taxi and Goat Hare kept the audience on the dance floor with country and rock music, while they donated towards a good cause.

Biker clubs such as the Crusaders, Steelwings and De la Ray Riders ensured the pre-event was a roaring success. “This charity event is held nationwide. Bikers come together to raise funds and buy toys for kids in need. All toys are donated to orphanages. In Mbombela, the toys will go to identified orphanages,” she said.

Woodford added that this charity was established to put smiles on the faces of orphaned children, to ensure their festive season would at least resemble those of other children with parents and homes. “We are calling on other businesses to join us on this occasion to donate toys or money towards securing toys for these kids. I am also inviting people to come and support our event on Saturday.”
