One dead and two injured in accident in Schoemanskloof

While two truck drivers were being treated after an accident in the Schoemanskloof, the emergency team's attention was called to a body underneath the coal trailer.

Two truck drivers were injured and one person died on the scene in an accident in the Schoemanskloof between De Beer’s Nek and Indabush on October 10 at about 21:00.

According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, upon his arrival on the scene, they found two articulated trucks had collided, resulting in the one of them rolling over.

“On investigation, we found that the one driver was trapped. While treating him, a bystander informed us there was a body they could see under the coal and trailer. We retrieved the body, but he had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” Jeffrey said.

He said the driver was eventually freed with the use of the Jaws of Life. He was found to have moderate injuries, while the driver of the second truck had a slight injury to his shoulder.

Both drivers were treated and transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

It is still unclear what caused the accident.

The deceased was handed over to the SAPS.
