White River Primary marks milestone at its 120th

The weekend celebration of the 120th anniversary of White River Primary School was filled with fun for the whole family. Entertainment was provided by numerous artists.

During the weekend of March 3, White River Primary School celebrated its 120th anniversary.

According to its website, the school opened its doors 120 years ago with 27 pupils. In 1926, a larger school was built with three classrooms, and soon after, additional buildings were erected. In 1931, a new wing with three classrooms was added.

On August 1, 1929, the school was declared a P111 school, since it had more than 100 pupils.

Rian Cooper, the school’s principal, mentioned on the website that both the staff and pupils have reason to be proud of this treasure of the Lowveld. He said White River Primary not only fills individuals with amazement, but also provides a sense of direction.

The 120th anniversary festivities commenced with learners and teachers participating in a parade through the streets of White River. Subsequently, the families enjoyed a dance and a market on the school grounds.

The Saturday events featured a market with numerous local vendors and entrepreneurs offering a variety of delicious foods, drinks, handmade baskets, leather products, jewellery and so much more. Children engaged in various activities, including water slides, electronic bull rides and gladiator slides.

The entertainment line-up included the CMDA, Zane, Slick Velvet, Just Sam, Debbie K, Berno Venter, Ivan Roux, Ouderdoos and Dirk van der Westhuizen.

With perfect sunny weather as the backdrop, it was a fantastic day for both young and old.
