Mbombela’s country music power couple Pieter and Lanie Rischmüller lauded at music awards

Pieter Rischmüller is also known as Piet Pompies. He received one of the most prestigious awards in SA country music at the awards.

Only a few months after he was honoured at the Afri-Indie Music Awards, Mbombelan singer-songwriter Pieter Rischmüller and his wife Lanie were handed a host of awards at the 2024 Sacmaf Awards.

The sixth annual SA Country Music Association/Foundation (Sacmaf) Awards were held at Amorosa Wedding and Conference Venue in Pretoria on October 30. These awards set out to honour the very best in South African country music for the year gone by, and the Rischmüllers made sure they were well in the mix in 2024.

The awards were held in a stylish Gatsby theme with performances by Ryan Walt and award-winners John Rock Prophet, Johan Scheppel and Kris Valery. Lanie won the award for the Best Newcomer Female Country Cover Artist of the Year, with her cover of Tennessee Whiskey.

Pieter himself, also known as Piet Pompies, a local musician and artist, won the Afrikaans Original Album of the Year Award, the Afrikaans Original Male Artist of the Year Award, the Overall Male Country Artist of the Year Award, and the Country Music Entertainer of the Year Award.

Over and above these awards, Rischmüller was given one of the greatest honours in South African country music – the Jason Bradley Golden Country Music Award.

“Thank you so much for the great honour. It really means a lot to me and Lanie to receive these awards,” Pieter said, promising that there is a lot more to come, too. “Pieter and Lanie Rischmüller have a lot more surprises up their sleeves for 2025. The Rischmüllers are taking country music to the next level in SA.”

In August, Pieter received the Afri-Indie Award in the Best Southern Rock Album at the 2024 Afri-Indie Music Awards, making this a highly successful year for this Mbombelan artist.
