Tubatse Crossing drills a borehole for crèche

Tubatse Crossing is committed to working with communities in Burgersfort to provide sustainable solutions to their challenges

The days of struggling to access clean water are over for the Moepathutse Crèche in Madiseng Village, thanks to a generous donation from the Tubatse Crossing Regional Mall.

The mall recently drilled a borehole for the school, providing a sustainable water source. On October 25, this publication visited the preschool to witness the impact of this life-changing contribution.

Tubatse Crossing Regional Mall’s centre manager, Jeffrey Motloung, explained that their initial intention was to assist the school in setting up a vegetable garden.

“However, after conducting a more in-depth needs analysis, we realised the school’s most urgent requirement was access to clean running water, as the area lacks proper water infrastructure. This prompted us to install the borehole,” Motloung said.

He said it is expected to benefit not only the school, but also the surrounding community.

“We do, however, expect the school management and parents to take collective responsibility for maintaining and securing the borehole. Tubatse Crossing is committed to working with communities to provide sustainable solutions to their challenges,” he added.

Motloung further mentioned that other community development projects are being planned for the future.

“We are currently conducting needs assessments and consulting with key community leaders and non-profits to ensure that our initiatives have meaningful impact,” he said.

Moepathutse’s principal, Gladys Lewele, expressed her gratitude for the new borehole, which has allowed the school to start growing vegetables in its mini garden.

“This is such a blessing. In the past, we spent about R350 just to fill our JoJo tank with 400L of water. Sometimes, I even had to use my bakkie to fetch water from home. Now we’re saving money and the garden is thriving,” she said.
