Ga-Phasha church elders ask for damaged church to be rebuilt

The church members called on Good Samaritans to help them rebuild their church.

For four years, members of the St John’s Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Ga-Phasha Steelpoort have attended their church proceedings in a dilapidated building.

In April 2020, the church’s main building was destroyed by heavy storms.

The church members erected a shack and held their church proceedings in it.

This publication recently visited the church in Bokome Section. The devoted Christians worship in a church that was erected using corrugated iron.

With most of the country experiencing a heatwave, there are no proper windows for ventilation. The church has been comforting and healing souls since 2004, but at this juncture, it is a challenge for the church-goers to praise God and execute their church commitments.

Steelburger/Lydenburg News spoke to the church leader and co-founder, Gogo Elizabeth Mapodile, about their challenges.

“We have no alternatives as most of our members are the elderly and unemployed. We are pleading with Good Samaritans, local shops, the surrounding mines and businesses to assist in rebuilding our church,” Mapodile said.

According to her, the lack of a proper shelter affects the attendance. “With our smaller church, we cannot accommodate all our members. That is the reason we are pleading for help.”

She said the church was erected by her late husband, Daniel Mapodile, in 2004.

“He erected it from scratch and was assisted by a few members of the community. It was sad to see the structure damaged. I will be happy if some Good Samaritans can assist us in our quest to rebuild it.”
