Mpumalanga MEC of community safety calls for investigation into Barberton Police Station fire

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, said he wants those who are responsible to face the consequences of their actions.

Following the reported fire in one of the offices at Barberton Police Station on Thursday, November 21, the Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, has called on the SAPS to thoroughly investigate the incident.

Macie said the incident had a potential of undermining cases already opened and may create anxiety among community members, especially those who have registered serious cases at the station.

“Without pre-empting the outcome of the probe into the matter, we want those who are responsible to face the full consequences of their actions. Although there are many hardworking members, these developments may undermine the great work that the police were doing to stabilise crime in the province,” he said.

Macie appealed for calm in the community, saying that the community members must allow the police to fully investigate the matter.

He also appealed to the community not to be afraid to expose any rotten potatoes among themselves.

He said they must continue to work harder and remain loyal and true to their badge.
