Electricity restored to Mbombela

Parts of Mbombela went without electricity for more than 12 hours due to a cable fault at a substation.

Electricity has been restored to some parts of Mbombela after they had gone without for more than 12 hours.

According to the City of Mbombela’s (CoM) spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, the power outages were caused by a cable fault that feeds the Anderson Street substation.

Ngala said the technicians encountered some difficulties and couldn’t immediately access the area where the fault was, which caused the initial delays.

He said CoM officials will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all the affected areas have power without any further issues. Residents are advised to report any faults to the municipality for attention.

He said the water supply ought to follow soon because the pumps will start working again, as they had stopped due to the power failure. However, residents are asked to be patient while this happens.

Some of the business in Mbombela were forced to close their doors due to the power failure, while traffic started to heap up due to the traffic lights not working.

This has also resulted in few accidents in town. However, the CoM has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the power failure.

Ngala said it was beyond their control, but they had worked around the clock to ensure that the electricity was restored.
