Flood damage: Second stop-and-go on R40

There are now two stop-and-gos along the R40 caused by the heavy floods in the area.

Sanral has added another stop-and-go on the R40 between White River and Hazyview on February 21, due to floods.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution when approaching the area.

Sanral’s provincial manager, Mabuyi Mhlanga, said: “The closure of the R40 was caused by a slip onto the road, which is a hazard for motorists. We have barricaded the area with heavy delineators as temporary measures to make it safe. Concrete barriers will be used to barricade the road before the end of the week. We have also put a temporary stop-and-go until a permanent solution is put in place.”

Mhlanga advised road users to drive with caution when travelling on the road, to adhere to warning signs, to reduce travel speed and to drive with extreme caution in the heavy rains.

The R40 near Klipkopjes Dam has been operating on a stop-and-go basis for the past two years, as some extensive damage was caused by floods in February 2023.

However, the contractor is currently on-site repairing the damages.
