DCSSL urges caution on roads during Mabuza’s week of mourning

Plans are under way to deal with the anticipated increase in traffic on all routes into and out of the province.

Since the passing of former Deputy President Dabede David Mabuza on July 3, many people have visited his residence in Barberton to pay tribute and offer condolences to the family.

This has led to increased traffic on roads to and from Barberton, including the R38, R36 and R40.

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL), advised motorists travelling on these routes, to drive carefully to avoid disrupting traffic flow or causing unnecessary accidents.

The department also urged members of the public visiting Mabuza’s home, to approach the area cautiously and to park in a manner that does not obstruct traffic in the vicinity.

“Traffic law enforcement, the SAPS and members of the security cluster have finalised plans to secure the memorial services scheduled in three districts on Thursday, July 10, as well as the funeral service on Saturday, July 12,” said Mmusi.

He added that plans are under way to manage the anticipated surge in traffic from Thursday, July 10 and throughout the weekend on all major routes entering and exiting the province.
