Helping hands needed for Ga-Manoke man’s life-changing surgery

Dr Ephraim Kgoete says Petros Malepe’s condition is treatable if the necessary funding can be secured.

A fundraising campaign to assist Ga-Manoke resident Petros Malepe (43) with surgery is gaining momentum. The initiative is led by Dr Ephraim Kgoete, widely known as the people’s doctor (Dr ya batho) or Dr Macutcut.

Malepe suffers from a large keloid that requires surgical removal to help him regain confidence and improve his quality of life.

Residents in Tubatse, particularly in the CBD, have often seen Malepe struggling to move or nod his head due to the growth.

“It first appeared around 1995 as a minor pimple but kept growing. I sought help, but the Limpopo Department of Health couldn’t assist. I was sent from pillar to post, travelling between Burgersfort and Polokwane several times, without any results. Eventually, I gave up,” Malepe said.

He added that his family offered little support, and he has had to cope on his own. Now, he is appealing to good Samaritans for donations.

“I decided to help after being introduced to him via social media. He needs support throughout this journey, and I am willing to perform the surgery,” said Dr Kgoete.

The doctor emphasised that Malepe’s condition is treatable if the necessary funding is secured. Funds raised will cover surgery, hospital fees, emotional support, radiotherapy, and related expenses. Interested donors can contact Dr Kgoete on 083 871 8147 or 065 924 1723.
