Police investigate robbery and kidnapping in Bushbuckridge’s Orinoco Trust

Suspects stole a cellphone and laptop before kidnapping a woman.

Bushbuckridge (BBR) police are investigating a robbery and kidnapping that occurred in Orinoco Trust on 1 October. Khensani Mathebula (36) remains missing.

According to Sergeant Merilyne Mmonwa, spokesperson for the BBR police station, the break-in happened while the family was asleep. They were awakened by the sound of the kitchen door being forced open.

“Six unknown males entered the house – two armed with pistols – and demanded money. Two of the men took one family member outside, while the others remained inside with Mathebula and two others,” said Mmonwa.

According to Mathebula’s son who was being held outside, he then saw his mother being forced into a vehicle that was parked a distance away from the house.

The witness could only describe the getaway vehicle as a bakkie. The suspects stole Mathebula’s Samsung A25 cellphone and a laptop, and fired a single gunshot before fleeing with her.

The identities of the suspects, who remain at large, are unknown. A 72-hour action plan has been implemented, and the police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist the investigation or lead to Mathebula’s safe return.
