Hazyview Pets in Distress issues desperate plea as kitten dumping increases

A recent surge in abandoned animals has Hazyview Pets in Distress overwhelmed.

Pets in Distress (PID) has raised the alarm over a disturbing spike in the abandonment and inhumane treatment of unwanted kittens in the Hazyview area.

The organisation is struggling to cope with the number of animals found dumped and left to die and is appealing to the community for help and donations.

Since the beginning of October, PID has encountered numerous kittens in dire distress. Some were found starving in rubbish bins, while others were tied in sacks and left in the bushes. Despite their best efforts, the sheer scale of the crisis has overwhelmed their limited resources.

To combat this inhumane treatment, PID is urging the community to act, with a focus on sterilisation and responsible care.

“In order to save these cats, we are once again asking members of the community to assist with donations to sterilise animals. Sterilisation is crucial to curb the population and prevent unwanted litters from being abandoned,” the team said.

They also stressed the need for basic care: “If a mother cat does fall pregnant, please allow her to feed her kittens until they can eat on their own.”

PID is desperate to offer a lifeline to unwanted kittens and is urging residents to choose compassion over cruelty.

“If you don’t want kittens in your yard, please call the PID team and give us time to find loving, caring homes. We will come and collect the kittens. This service provides a safe, humane alternative to dumping,” the team explained. “It is important to note that PID is not funded by government and relies entirely on the generosity of the public. We depend on donors to continue our critical work caring for animals in distress.”

Every day, PID feeds and cares for abandoned and stray animals across the Hazyview area.

Without community support, their ability to rescue and care for these innocent creatures is severely hampered.

Anyone who wishes to assist Hazyview Pets in Distress – whether by contributing to sterilisation and feeding abandoned animals, or helping in any other way – can contact the team directly on 068 085 2822.
