KCLBT wins first Kudu Award in Midrand

The Lowveld’s KLCBT was awarded for the Integrated Safety and Security Project along the Numbi Road.

Members of the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) were overjoyed last night, November 27, when they received their first-ever SANParks Kudu Award at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. The entity was recognised for its efforts in the Integrated Safety and Security Project under the Associated Partners category.

“This is the first time we’ve been nominated, and the first time we won,” said KLCBT CEO Linda Grimbeek excitedly.

“We are humbled by this recognition and grateful to everyone who took part in the project,” she said.

Grimbeek explained that the project aimed to secure road safety for tourists who visit the country, adding that there have been no incidents on the Numbi Road over the last three years. The project was launched in July 2022 following multiple reports of crime on the road and the death of a German tourist, Jörg Schnarr.

The Kudu Awards recognise the contributions of individuals and institutions to conservation management at two levels: SANParks staff members, honoured through the Chief Executive Awards, and external stakeholders, through the Kudu Awards.
