The draw to select the 128 teams that will participate took place at the KaMhlushwa Community Hall last Thursday. The teams were selected from the 21 football streams in 54 villages in the area through an official quota system based on team performance per league stream.
Mr Kenneth Phiri, of RCL Foods, urged the coaches to make use of the opportunity to select the best players, so that scouts could unearth Nkomazi’s talent.
“Clubs from the Premier Soccer League (PSL), National First Division (NFD) and Motsepe League will be there to scout for players. The few that are spotted will be able to follow in the footsteps of great soccer legends,” said Phiri.
The winning team will be awarded the Selati Cup title and trophy, as well as R100 000 cash, medals, and soccer kits. Runners-up will receive R60 000 cash, third place will receive R35 000 and fourth place will take home R25 000. The top four teams will receive soccer kits and each of the 128 participating teams will receive cash in a tiered reward system. The top goal scorers and record-breaker, as well as player and goalkeeper of the tournament will also be rewarded.
Soccer action will start at 09:00 at the KaMhlushwa Stadium, with Block A Naughty Boys facing Mbuzini Bhunya Sundowns. At 11:00, Sambo Block B United will play against Schoemansdal Continental, at 13:00 it’s Mananga Supersport vs KaMhlushwa City Stars, and at 15:00 KaMhlushwa Screamer Eleven will face Driekoppies Mashaba United.
Fans can look forward to loads of soccer action until the finals at KaMhlushwa Stadium on June 4.
