Hundreds enjoy scenic Boulders Marathon at Kaapmuiden
More than 500 runners hit the Boulders Road near Kaapmuiden early on Saturday morning for the annual Boulders Marathon.
The increasingly popular Boulders Marathon consists of 10- and 25-kilometre routes and was hosted by Onderberg Marathon Club and The United Church of Christ the King on Saturday.
Despite the overcast and windy conditions, runners in the 10-kilometre event managed to better the previous year’s winning times.
Thulani Lukhuleni of Born to Win was the first to cross the finish line at Kaapmuiden Primary, with a time of 32:30.
Prince Ndlovu of Run/Walk for Life came in second with a time of 33:01, followed by Freedom Makhubeti of Run/Walk for Life in a time of 35:17. All three improved on last year’s winning time of 36:09.

The female winners also beat last year’s time of 53:38.
Nontokozo Dlamini of Nedbank LVCC was the female winner in 47:50, followed by Tanya Delport in 50:40 and Joani van Rooyen in third place in 51:02.

The Boulders Marathon was originally a 32-kilometre race, which was last hosted by the SAP Running Club. It was presented in 2001 and 2007 and from 2014 onwards as a 25-kilometre race, to avoid the busy N4 toll road.
The longer route follows the Boulders Road over the Crocodile Gorge Mountains, through the Crocodile Gorge Conservancy and finishes at Kaapmuiden Primary. It features steep several up- and downhills.
The shorter route starts and finishes at Kaapmuiden Primary.
The organisers thank all their sponsors, helpers and supporters for helping to make one of their biggest races to date so successful.
