Athletes impress at tough off-road duathlon
2018 South African pentathlon champion, Pietie Oosthuizen earned the overall title over the 35 kilometres of the third annual Rudamans and Husqvarna Off-road Duathlon, held at Uplands College on Saturday.

The 24-year-old secured the title, crossing the finish line in a time of one hour, 44 minutes and 54 seconds.
Oosthuizen ran a time of 17,07 and did the 35-kilometre cycling in 1:13,40. With a time of 15,22 over the last four kilometres, he manage to finish a mere six seconds ahead of triathlete celebrity, Roger Mortlock.
Mortlock came in second place in 1:45,15, after losing some valuable time on his mountain bike. At last year’s event, he had to settle for the bronze medal.
Duo Ryan Terry and Kevin Patten were the first team to finish the race in 1:40,25.
Spur School Mountain Bike champion, Zandri Strydom and long-distance athlete of Born 2 Win, Thulani Lekhulani completed the race in 1:49,10 to take second overall in the team event.
Team 78, consisting of Sarah Archdeacon and Martin Oosthuizen, took the spoils over the 15-kilometres with a time of 53,40. The first solo entry to finish the race was Jacques Nel. He did so in a time of 54,27.
Dylon Botha took the silver medal in 58,54.
It was a race to the finish for the first spot over the short distance of five kilometres. David Notten placed first (22,45), duo Matthew Ernstein and Ross Maude second (23,02) and Daniel Rea rounded off the podium (23,57).
