Kambaku’s Dino Thobela shines in White River Junior Golf Open

His round included three birdies

Josh Karatonis of Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club shot a three over par 74 to win the White River Country Junior Open on Sunday.

The tournament was played in a cold drizzle. His round included birdies on the first, seventh and 16th holes.

Kambaku Golf Club’s Dino Thobela finished second.

The Komatipoort golfer shot a round of 77. He started brilliantly with a birdie on the first and went on to shoot 39 on the first nine. He came back in 38 shots, birdying the 18th, for his score of six over par.

Tied on third was another Royal Johannesburg and Kensington golfer, Pieter-André van der Merwe, and Mbombela Golf Club’s Keegan Klee on 80.

Middelburg Country Club’s Bea Breedt won the girls’ gross division on four over par 75. She shot the second-best score of the day.

Her round included birdies on the 10th and 14th.

Lucia Mhlabane of Malelane Golf Club was the runner-up in the girls’ division on 79 strokes.

Malelane’s Dimpho Mhlongo was third on 84.
