The final Lowvelder Golf Challenge for the year is now little more than a month away.

The penultimate Lowvelder Golf Challenge for the year was held at Mbombela Golf Club on October 30, with one of the biggest fields yet taking to the course.

The Lowvelder Golf Challenge was made possible thanks to partnerships with Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys and Octopi Smart Solutions, who are both sponsors of the monthly event. The first edition was held in February and has been hosted at Mbombela Golf Club one Wednesday every month since.

The format adopted for each competition was individual Stableford, requiring golfers to rack up as many points as possible every day. From there each golfer’s points are tallied up and once they reach a minimum of five rounds played, they are considered eligible for the overall prize to be handed out in November.

Then the overall winner is determined after the final competition on November 20 by putting together each golfer’s five best scores. Last Wednesday was the ninth and penultimate event for the year, and no fewer than 80 golfers participated.

Dave Edmondson was the best golfer on the day, making use of the great weather conditions to card 41 points and to win on a count out. Club captain Chalmers Pagiwa finished second on 41 points, and Danie Stassen finished third on 39.

The overall top 10 to date:
1. Denise West – 184 points
2. Franchoa Giliomee – 184
3. Danie Bezuidenhout – 181
4. JJ van Rensburg – 180
5. Peet Rabie – 179
6. Denise Diesel – 178
7. Denis Paiva – 172
8. Attie van Wyk – 171
9. Hennie Venter – 170
10. Bets Jacobs – 170.
