Clay target shooters take aim at Gold Valley Gun Club

There were several categories for the marksmen to participate in, each offering its own challenges.

Gold Valley Gun Club and Mountain Venue recently hosted one of the top clay target shooting competitions as marksmen from all over the country descended upon the Lowveld to take part.

A total of 25 shooters participated in the Clay Target Shooting Association SA’s Mpumalanga English Sporting Championship 2024, held on October 12 and 13. There were also various categories available for shooters to participate in, with everyone in red-hot form over the two days of competition.

After the first day, the host of the competition at Gold Valley, the Mbombelan Matthew Greeff, was in the lead. The second day offered up a different set of challenges, though, and Greeff was ultimately overtaken by another local, Devon Millard, whose scores of 88 (day one) and 90 (day two) ensured he took top prize.

Greeff still earned second place and the top veteran prize, followed by KwaZulu-Natal’s Melville Watson in third. Madelein Fouche, another Mbombelan, was the best-placed lady after the two-day competition.
