The Rockets continue their Betway Premiership unbeaten run

TS Galaxy's impressive run of form has brought them within three points of the top four.

TS Galaxy has extended its fine run of form since Adnan Beganovic took charge as manager, with The Rockets now unbeaten in six straight games in the Betway Premiership.

TS Galaxy’s sixth consecutive unbeaten game came on Saturday, January 4, against Magesi at Mbombela Stadium. The game was an opportunity for The Rockets to pick up some valuable points, as Magesi find themselves at the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, TS Galaxy were hoping to continue their resurgence under Beganovic’s and to climb further up the log.

The home side threatened for the bulk of the game, dominating possession as well as the number of shots at goal, but nothing came of the sustained pressure. TS Galaxy had possession of the ball for 63% of the game, accumulating no fewer than 19 shots at goal, two of which were considered to be big chances.

Magesi captain and goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze was in red-hot form, though, making five saves to shut out The Rockets. The score ended 0-0, earning Magesi a valuable point while The Rockets were undoubtedly left frustrated for not emerging with a better return.

The solitary point helped TS Galaxy rise up to ninth on the log, their best position yet this season. It is a sign of their continued resurgence under Beganovic’s leadership, after he took the reins following Sead Ramovic’s resignation in November. With three wins and three draws in his first six games, he has underseen TS Galaxy’s emergence out of the relegation zone and back into contention for the top eight of the Betway Premiership.

There is still only three points separating TS Galaxy in ninth and Sekhukhune United in fourth place, so a top-four spot is not yet out of the question for The Rockets as they approach the halfway point in the season. A large part of their success has been their ability to churn out better results in away matches, a serious weakness that caused issues last season.

This season, though, they’ve won two, drawn three and lost three of their opening eight away games, which gives TS Galaxy the fourth best away record in the league at this stage. Last season, Mbombela Stadium proved a fortress for The Rockets, but in the first four home games of this season they’ve won one, drawn two and lost one, a record they’ll be looking to improve.

Next up, TS Galaxy is taking a trip to Durban to take on the Golden Arrows, against whom they have a fairly good record. They are unbeaten in the last seven encounters with the Durbanites, having won the last four. The Golden Arrows last beat TS Galaxy in May 2021.
