IN PHOTOS: Thrills and spirit return as 2025 Dust Buster series starts

251 mountain bikers of varying levels of ability enjoyed the first race day of the series.

The 2025 Dust Buster #1 is done, dusted and busted. The first leg of this popular MTB series took place at Hall’s Farm on Sunday, July 6.

Some 251 riders completed the various races.

The Dust Buster series is for all MTB riders, from beginners to those who have raced at a national and even international level. It is a family orientated event with a race for everyone, from five-year-olds to those in their 60s.

The event is designed for riders who just want to keep fit while having fun, and those who want to get even fitter for the high-profile provincial series that are in progress.

Dust Buster #1 was once again superbly organised and executed by 2D Adventures.

Emile van Niekerk, the 55km winner.

Megan Botha dominated the junior female 55km race, winning in 01:56:48. Danel de Jager was second in 02:03:25 and Mia Putter third in 02:04:45.

In the senior men 55km race, Emile van Niekerk showed pure class, winning in 01:38:39. Christian Smit was second in 01:42:52 and Gawie Combrink third with a time of 01:42:56.

An important aspect of Dust Buster is the 5km ride. The first leg of the series attracted 47 riders in this fun category. The youngest was five; the oldest 60. The Muller family filled the last three places in the 5km ride. Dad Jannie, daughter Lea, and son Uys rode the together, showcasing the spirit of Dust Buster.
