TS Galaxy to host Sundowns and Chiefs, back-to-back, at Mbombela Stadium
With three matches in eight days, The Rockets' mission of climbing into the top eight of the log table is in their own hands.
Mpumalanga’s 2010 Soccer World Cup Stadium in Mbombela will come alive next Tuesday and again on February 5 when TS Galaxy host the defending champions and current log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.
The stadium’s spokesperson, Mthuthuzeli Zondo, said everything is in order and they are ready to host these two crucial DStv Premiership games.
He said tickets for the Sundowns’ clash are already available and selling at Computicket outlets nationally.
“The tickets are available at only R50 for adults and R20 for children. We hope people will come out in their numbers
and pack the stadium to full capacity,” Zondo said.
TS Galaxy comes to these two crucial games in search of points to avoid the relegation zone. They are currently 11th on the table with 19 points after 16 games.
Mamelodi Sundowns, on the other hand, are on fire and already on top of the table with 43 points after 17 games.
Galaxy’s next opponents in Mbombela, Kaizer Chiefs, are fourth with 24 points after 16 games played.
Despite their mid-table log position, TS Galaxy defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld on August 16.
Chiefs hosted The Rockets at Soccer City on October 19. Their thriller ended in a 2-2 draw.
If TS Galaxy play with the freedom and confidence they showed early in the season, they might just surprise the two Gauteng giants.
But as the season progressed, The Rockets’ fire petered out. They have scored eight goals and conceded eight in their 16 DStv Premiership matches.
If Melusi Buthelesi returns from injury to keep goal for TS Galaxy, it will boost the Mpumalanga team’s chances of victory over Sundowns and Chiefs. In the 15 matches he has been the goalminder this season, he has let through just eight goals.
But the two-cap Bafana Bafana goalkeeper has not been backed by his team’s attack.
The pitch at Mbombela Stadium is in immaculate condition and arguably the best surface in South Africa to play football on.
Fans are encouraged to get their tickets early and arrive early at the venue for the two games.
A big crowd is expected for the Sundowns match, but the fixture against Chiefs is likely to be close to full house.
The Rockets have an away game to Cape Town City at 19:30 on Friday night before the two crucial home matches.
