KaBokweni rugby player joins Toyota Free State Cheetahs
The 17-year-old has worked hard for nine years to get to where he is, but he says he still has a long way to go to achieve his dream.
Nine years of hard work, dedication and perseverance have finally paid off for 17-year-old rugby player Bandile Zwane, who recently signed a junior contract with the Toyota Free State Cheetahs.
Bandile from Makoko outside KaBokweni, signed the four-year contract on Thursday, August 14. He described the deal as the beginning of his journey.
“As exciting as this achievement is, I know that I am not a professional player yet. I am still at a junior level, and there is a lot more to accomplish before I reach my ultimate goal,” Bandile said.
“It is important for me to stay humble, keep working hard, and remain focused on my objectives.”
His dream is to represent South Africa at the highest level, wearing the green and gold jersey.

“While this contract is a significant step towards achieving my goal, I am aware that I am still far from where I want to be. I will need to put in exceptional effort and dedication. This will help me bridge the gap between my current level and the top tier.”
Bandile added that signing with the Cheetahs is a crucial step in the right direction.
“I am grateful for this opportunity and recognise that it’s a platform to grow, learn and further develop my skills. I will cherish this experience and use it as a springboard to propel myself towards my ultimate goal.”

The talented Hoërskool Rob Ferreira pupil has also been selected for the Danie Rossouw Rugby Tour in Italy from October 6 to 15. He will join 25 other youngsters from across the country.
“This is another crucial milestone in my rugby career, showcasing my hard work and dedication,” Bandile said.
“This was my fifth year playing at the Danie Rossouw Rugby Week and my second time being selected for an international tour. Last year, I toured the Netherlands.”
The Grade 12 player has accumulated numerous awards over the past nine years, including player of the year at school and top try scorer in the SDC Noordvaal Schools Series.
“Rugby has carried me through many challenges, and I believe that with my passion, my dream of becoming a Springbok one day, will become a reality. I just need to stick to good morals, and everything will work out,” he said.

Bandile gained valuable exposure at a rugby tournament in Rustenburg from April 25 to May 5, in preparation for the international tour. His role model is South African professional rugby player Makazole Mapimpi, whose story inspires him to work hard and push boundaries.
