Van Wettens and friends on a drive in support of children’s home

Fun and networking were enjoyed, but more importantly, R100 000 was raised for the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home.

The second annual Van Wettens Breakdown Services Golf Day took place at Mbombela Golf Club on Friday, October 17.

Van Wettens’ clients and stakeholders from the Lowveld, Highveld and Gauteng gathered for a day of networking and a good cause.

With a full field of players and vibrant tee boxes hosted by local and national companies, the event was a great success.

The golf day raised R100 000 that was donated to the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in Modimolle. “The success of last year’s event showed us how vital this engagement is with our clients across Mpumalanga and Gauteng. Our unwavering work to support children in crisis is a cause that reflects Van Wettens’ community values,” said Van Wettens’ Morné Fourie.

There was an amazing spirit on the course throughout the day, which continued into the night with a superb prize-giving, auction and function after the day’s play.

“At the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, we care for 170 vulnerable children – from babies to teenagers – providing them with safety, love and a chance at a brighter future. We rely largely on the generosity of donors and sponsors to keep our doors open and our children’s hearts full,” said Marlene de Villiers, marketing manager of the home.

“A few months ago, I received an unexpected email from Maryke de Wet from Van Wettens, informing me that our children’s home had been chosen as this year’s beneficiary. It felt like an angel had been sent our way.

“When I attended the golf day, I was met with one of the warmest welcomes I have ever experienced. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of attending many golf days in support of our home, but this one stood out above the rest. The professionalism, the energy and the incredible spirit of everyone involved created an atmosphere of unity and generosity that truly touched my heart.

“The funds raised through this event will make a meaningful difference – helping us not only to feed our children but also to give them a festive season filled with joy and memories they will treasure.

“To the entire Van Wettens team – thank you for your initiative, your effort and your compassion. You didn’t just host a golf day; you changed lives. On behalf of every child and staff member at Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, we are deeply grateful for your kindness and support. Because of you, hope shines a little brighter on our fairways and in the hearts of 170 children who now know they are not forgotten.”

The winners of the four ball alliance, on 123 points, were Graham Brabso, Gert van der Merwe, Jacques Pieterse and MG Snyman.

Dandré Neumeyer, Pontie van Rooyen, Ross Tapson and Eugene Neumeyer were second on 108; and Dave Lowe, Beon Stander, Shane Davis and Steven Collins third on 106.
