Archers from Gateway Christian School in Barberton attended the South African Christian Schools’ Sports Association (SACSSA) international schools archery competition held in February.

The event was held in Buffelsvlei, Lydenburg. Seven of the eight students who competed qualified for SACSSA Mpumalanga colours. The young archers competed over two rounds of 10 metres (age 11), one round of 10 metres and one round of 15 metres (age 13 and open).

In order to qualify for SACSSA Mpumalanga colours, they had to achieve a minimum of 150 points in the age category 11 and 13, as well as 200 points in the open category.

The qualifying students in the girls 11 category were the twins Heysuk and Heyjeong Sim who achieved a second and third place respectively and Zendande Khoza attained a fourth place.

In the category girls 13, Jade Bahlmann came first and Elmoné du Plessis third. Jacques du Plessis and Shaedlyn Bosman qualified in the boys open with a sixth and ninth place respectively.

Those who didn’t qualify this time around need not be discouraged as they will have another opportunity on April 18. The SACSSA national archery competition will take place on July 31.
