Curro acknowledges their top athletes of 2016

Curro Nelspruit's Brooklyn Croxon dominated the Mpumalanga Top Schools Swimming Championships with five wins in five events.

She won medals in her individual events and for overall performance for girls 12 and under.

Brooklyn was named Curro’s senior swimmer of the year. She also received the senior victrix ludorum trophy at Curro’s Interhouse swimming gala.

Young up-and-coming chess player, Zuan Taljaard, was presented with the chess player of year award. During the Curro Chess Tournament in May, he won four out of his five matches, losing to the overall winner of the A section, Pfumi Maluleke (30), who has previously competed in the South African Closed Chess Championships.

Curro Nelspruit’s Ulrich Cilliers (11) became Curro’s first pupil to have been selected for a provincial rugby team since the school opened it doors five years ago.

He played rugby for the first team and represented the Pumas u/12 B team which toured to Vryheid during the June holidays.

Netball player of the year, Anri Spruyt was part of the Curro Nationals All Stars team.

Amina Putter, placed first in the sub-nippers category at the MTB Spur School finals that were held at Mankele Mountain Bike Park, and shared the rider of the year trophy with Jessica Louw.

The sportsman and sportswoman of the year trophies will be handed out next week at Curro’s awards ceremony.
