Africa Explosion, a masterpiece

There’s far too much to take in here, more to find than can ever be found, but
the sun rolling high, through the sapphire sky, keeps great and small on the
endless round. It’s the Circle of Life.
A musical production, Africa Explosion, was staged by pupils of Lowveld High School last week, from Thursday to Saturday. The song “Circle of Life”, from the well-known Disney movie, Lion King, was the theme.
The 95 talented learners were given the opportunity to show off their talent and express themselves. The junior and senior choirs and the school’s band featured in the three-night show – of which two were sold out.
Bongani Mavundla, counsellor and head of cultural activity at the school, played in the band No one’s Arc. He was signed to the senior choir in 2008. He left the band in 2011, when they moved to Cape Town. “I just love what I do and I have a great passion for music. The first version of Africa Explosion, started in 2009, when we were very privileged to have Dyllan Bolton, now the lead singer and guitarist of No one’s Arc, on stage. The second version was two years later, and the third was just a huge success.”
They started rehearsing on the first day of school in January and eight months later,
delivered an excellent performance. “It was very well supported by young and old. We had a wide variety of music such as hip hop, African jazz and some classical hits. Our next step will be to get it out there, to show the world what we can do.”
Mimi and Goofey were this year’s guest artists who joined the learners on stage. “It was the realisation of how much talent we’ve got and catered for the love of music.”
They are already planning their next version in a few years’ time.
