Heads up from the MOTH Shellhole – September 25

The latest news from the Mpumalanga MOTH Shellhole.

Heads up!

Brig.

Moth Manuel Ferreira, Hermanus-based author and historian, sent news of a book to look out for.

”Of all the books about South Africa’s 21-year ‘Border War’ – fought on both sides of Angola’s frontier with present-day Namibia – the book “South Africa’s Border War” by Willem Steenkamp has always been rated as among the best.

It originally sold 31,000 copies in South Africa alone and has been out of print for decades.

This is the first re-issue of original. Almost all the photos were taken by Al J. Venter who covered that conflict intermittently for almost two decades.

Both Steenkamp and Venter have gone on to produce other works on that bitter conflict, but neither they nor anybody else has been able to match this beautiful coffee-table volume. Both agree that the book should be regarded a tribute to a generation of fighting men, where sons often followed in the footsteps of their fathers, serving the same units a generation apart.

The book is exceptionally well illustrated, with hundreds of colour as well as black and white photos; truly a valuable addition to recent African military history.”

A ticket to enter this highly esteemed event will cost you a miserly R1 000, and it’s a great opportunity to have fun while marketing your company.

For more info, or to enter a team, please contact Gumtreez Pub&Grill at gumtreez@casterbridge.co.za

The Military Associations of Johannesburg will be on parade in Barberton on October 5. This is a parade specifically for veterans, and all Moths and non-Moth veterans in the Lowveld are invited to attend.

Scribble a note in your diary so long. And watch this space for more details.

As you were.
