Gospel Gold project attracts citizens in the province

A Gospel Gold Project was a success at Kanyamazane.

KANYAMAZANE – The community of Lekazi and the Alliance Church were blessed with the presence of the country’s gospel songbird Rebecca Malope.

People came from as far as Nkomazi and surrounding areas to listen to the majestic voice of Reebs, as she is popularly known. It was a Gospel Gold project that had three churches in the province marked for a visit by her and two other gospel artists.

The first church the crew of Gospel Gold attended, was in KaBokweni

which Donny, one of the three musicians attends, and Church On the Hill which is where Sipho Makhabane worships.

Past Alexandra Phoku and his wife Virginia

Sibongile Phoku, led the church and audience in welcoming Rebecca who was born and raised in this church. Pastor Phoku expressed his joy in hosting Rebecca and how humbling it was for him and his church to have such a big name agreeing to come and bless the community with her presence.

“I am delighted to be here today – this is like coming home after so many years. My father was one of the founders of this church and raised my siblings and me according to the Lord’s way and for that I’m eternally grateful. It is an honour to be welcomed with

such warm hands after so many years. It is overwhelming to come back and feel the love of my family in Mpumalanga where I grew up,” said Rebecca.

The church service was packed with Malope’s fans, young and old, and was themed along Heritage Month, with many people wearing cultural attire. The whole building was decorated in keeping with the country’s diverse cultures.

The event also boasted a number of locally based gospel artists who performed their hit tracks and praised the Lord in their own right. Some of them were Sibongile Mthethwa, Sipho Langa, Paul Gama, Anderson, Indumiso Gospel Group, Boikie, Busiswe Nkosi and Promise Myeni.

A festival of food for the soul was served by these artists who all shared the same sentiment of what a great honour it was to perform for the Queen of Gospel Music in South Africa.
