Local team aim to revive glory days

Barberton City Stars director, Israel "Skhulu" Dhlamini said his side has become increasingly impressive and aims to revive the glory days of the 2000s.

Speaking after his team beat God’s Chosen 2-1 at Barberton Prison
Sportsground on Saturday, Dhlamini said his side was well prepared to win the Mpumalanga Second Division league and gain promotion to the National First Division.
Former Batau and Mbombela United marksman, Inky Masuku scored a
brace that ensured Ingucungucu 100 per cent unbeaten record remains
intact.
Saturday’s victory was the local side’s fourth win of the season.
They beat Amazayoni 2-1 in their opening game away from home. “We have assembled the best squad since 2007/08. We stand a good chance of winning the league.

We have brought some great players into the team,” said Dhlamini.
Stars are left with two games to play this year. This coming Saturday, they will be hosted by FC Benfica at Thulamahashe Stadium at 15:00.
Their last game of the year will be at home next Monday. They will host Young Highlanders at Barberton Prison Sportsground.
“We aim to finish the year unbeaten. The fans are beginning to
believe in the team. It’s very nice when the team play in front of their home
fans because they become player number 12 to them. ,” said Dhlamini.

One of the reasons for the general feeling of optimism is that Aaron “Squash” Shongwe has returned for a second stint as the club’s coach.
Shongwe was the man who guided Stars to the National play-offs in 2007/8 season. Unfortunately, they succumbed.
Dhlamini said this year the team was well prepared for anything and he was pleased that they have hit form early.
“I think we’re hitting peak form at the moment. They’re showing unbelievable determination to win football games, we’re on a good run.”
Players like Masuku, Lassy Dlamini and Walter Ramolodi had the ability to win games. Monday’s game at the prison ground will kick-off at 15:00.
